ROCK CLIMBING FAQ'S

1. How young is too young?

If your child can walk, he can climb! We have special harnesses and rock climbing areas for younger children that will allow them to climb.

2. Is it safe?

It is safe. Despite common misconceptions, rock climbing is one of the safest outdoor sports you can do with experienced guides. We use the same technology as an indoor climbing facility plus our guides use follow strict safety protocol to make your climbing experience the best adventure you will ever have! Our guides will gladly answer all of your questions about climbing safety, and rich history of the sport.

3. What if I don't have much upper body strenght?

The most popular routes on Chimney Rock require very little upper body strength. They slope inward, allowing you to keep your weight on your feet and use your arms only for balance. If you can walk, you can climb!

5. Where do we climb?

We are within minutes of the best climbing areas in the Midwest. Usually we take guests to Chimney Rock Park, but we'll guide for you anywhere you request including Devils Lake or Petenwell Crag.

6. What should we bring?

Vertical Illusions provides all necessary gear including Petzl harnesses, helmets, ropes/anchor systems, and even special 5.10 rock climbing shoes. You should wear socks, and bring snacks if you think you might get hungry. Other than that, bring yourself and an adventurous spirit!

General FAQ's

1. When do we pay for our trip?

We require your payment in full in order to reserve your date. We can take your credit card information over the phone.

2. If I decide to cancel my trip, can I get my money back?

We're sorry but the 20% reservation fee in non refundable for reserving the guides and date for your trip. If we cancel your trip due to inclement weather, we'll give you a Vertical Illusions gift card for the full amount. The card can be used in our retail store or for a trip at a later date.

3. Where are you located?

There is a map on our store page. We are located at the corner of 12/16 in Wisconsin Dells. Look for the Kayak on the roof.

4. Are the adventures fun?

We offer what Disney World can't. Family fun adventures for all skill levels. Kayaking and Rock Climbing are two of the fastest growing sports in the world, for good reason.

5. What is an appropriate tip for our guide?

If you had a great adventure, please thank your guide. Gratuities are much appreciated; they customarily range from 10-20% of the trip cost.
